Kosovo Schedules General Elections, Serbia Talks for Early 2011 Kosovo will hold general elections February 13, 2011 announced acting President Jakup Krasniqi, rejecting proposals from PM Hashim Thaci's party for immediate elections before 2010.
Early elections had to be called after President Fatmir Sejdiu resigned in September, after his and PM Thaci's groups in Parliament failed to reach an agreement on the new head of state, who has to be elected by the legislative body.
It was clear even earlier that the fragile coalition between Sejdiu and Thaci was not going to last for long, so the new elections are expected to reshape the political stage in Kosovo.
Interim President Krasniqi further stated that the negotiations with Serbia, from which Kosovo seceded in 2008, will have to be postponed until Kosovo has a stable government.
